Suffering from Eye Sag? How to Rejuvenate Your Youthful Eye Shape
- Posted on: Sep 27 2016
What’s a little eye sag when you’re twenty-five, thirty, even forty? After all, you can always try to compensate with artful makeup techniques, eye creams or inventive home remedies. But eventually, you may decide you want more than just cosmetic camouflage or another endless scroll through “1000+ Ways to Get Rid of Sagging Eyes!” It can be discouraging to search and search for a truly effective solution, especially with the bewildering array of “solutions” trotted out in magazines and websites, and the dubious efficacy of many of the products on the market today. I understand your frustration; I’ve been helping my patients with this problem for over 20 years.
When you come in to any of our offices for a consultation, I’ll listen closely as you tell me what you want to achieve. We’ll discuss your medical history, and I’ll go over which procedure(s) can help you get the results you’re looking for. As a facial rejuvenation specialist, my focus is on achieving a harmonious overall look, rather than correcting a single feature. Depending on what our consultation reveals, I may recommend an endoscopic brow lift, eyelid surgery, or any of a number of minimally invasive procedures.
Blepharoplasty (also called an eyelid lift) corrects sagging caused by excess skin on your eyelids. I typically perform this surgery to trim and tighten excess skin around the eyes. But simply cutting out the excess eyelid skin isn’t always the right option, since it may not be “excess” at all. I typically use my fingers to move the eyebrows up to a more youthful position in order to see whether the eyelids smooth out completely… and many times, they do. This means an eyelid lift will not correct the eye sag, and may actually make the problem worse by pulling your brows down even further. In this situation you might need a brow lift.
Paired forehead muscle pulls your eyebrows up while several smaller muscles control eyebrow descent and eyelid closure. Over time, millions of repeated muscle movements cause your brow to droop, and wrinkles to form. The skin between the eyelashes and the brow begins to fold and overlap, further pulling the brow and eyelid downward. . An endoscopic brow lift can lift the entire forehead reducing the loose skin around your eyes and smoothing out forehead wrinkles.
Endoscopic brow lifts and eyelid surgery can be performed separately or together using light intravenous sedation and a local anesthetic. The recovery time for both is about one to two weeks in total; I’ll usually remove sutures after one week, after which you can resume wearing makeup. I also combine brow lifts with a lower face and neck lift as part of the Azul Natural Facelift.
I’ll also discuss with you some non-surgical options for eye shaping and rejuvenation. Injectable dermal fillers can improve “hollow” areas by adding volume to dark circles under your eyes and smoothing the vertical creases between your eyebrows. Similarly, Botox treatments around your eyes and brow area minimize the repeated muscle movements that lead to lines and wrinkles. Of course, minimally invasive procedures like these don’t produce the same effects as surgery, but they also don’t require as much downtime.
During your thorough consultation we will discuss all the treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical which could help your specific situation. My team and I are always glad to answer any of your questions, and help you in choosing the right path forward..
