Get Holiday Ready with Blepharoplasty

shutterstock 607681235While wearing masks during the pandemic, we’ve seen more clearly than ever just how pivotal the eyes are to our appearance. For many of us, that is the primary facial feature that people have seen for almost two years. The tissue around the eyes is some of the most delicate on the body and the eye area is also one of the most “in-motion” parts of the face. We blink, we squint, we frown, we smile, and all these frequent movements contribute to changes around the eyes. If you’ve been trying to manage age-related changes on your upper or lower eyelids with creams, serums, and even injectables, and you’re growing tired of the process, you may be ready for blepharoplasty

How Blepharoplasty is Performed

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that is performed under sedation and anesthetic either in the operating room or in the office. The doctor performs eyelid surgery through small, hidden incisions that allow for the repositioning of the fatty tissue beneath the skin. Even in cases of puffy under eyes or hooded upper eyelids, fat distribution is preferred over fat removal. Once the fat is more evenly dispersed and excess skin is trimmed, the contours of the eyes are much improved.

Recovery and Results

Patients should plan about a week off work and other activities after blepharoplasty. Bruising is one of the surgical side effects that concerns patients the most. It is the most prominent one and can vary in severity from one person to another. Generally, bruising first looks red. After three to four days, the discoloration changes to purple and blue. For the next week or two after that, bruising will lighten to shades of green and yellow. We know, this might sound awful. However, there are ways to manage.

  • Avoid touching the eyes
  • Apply a cold compress to the area
  • Sleep on your back with your head elevated
  • Avoid the sun and exposure to the wind
  • Avoid strenuous activities for about two weeks
  • Use concealer and make up specifically designed post surgery

Recovery from blepharoplasty is relatively quick, which makes now an excellent time to contact us to schedule your consultation for this rejuvenating procedure. You could be refreshed and restored in time for the Holidays!  Call 239.415.7576 and schedule a visit in Fort Myers, Naples, or Bonita Springs.
