It was 8 a.m. and I had just arrived at the office. I stepped one foot out of my car and immediately felt the hot rays of the sun on my skin. A glance at my car’s thermometer told me the temperature was already in the high eighties! Even if we are careful to use sun protection, there is always the risk of sun damage, and with sun damage comes the dreaded sun spots — those patches of skin that are darker than others and get worse the older we get. Fortunately, at Azul we have a number of treatments available to get rid of them — both invasive and non-invasive, depending on how uneven your skin tone is.
Invasive
CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing can deliver incredibly dramatic results by resurfacing severely sun-damaged skin. Through the use of a CO2 laser, your uneven skin tone and sunspots are simply removed with the top layer of the skin. This technique also tightens the deeper layers of the skin, eliminating wrinkles. As this is a surgical procedure, there is a recovery time of at least a week for optimal healing. We have a new Fractional CO2 laser that is providing fabulous results with a healing time that is less than traditional CO2. This reduced down time is allowing us to do combined procedures now, where for instance a brow lift and eyelids can be combined with a fractional ablative CO2 resurfacing for maximal results.
Fraxel® Laser Skin Rejuvenation
Fraxel is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative fractional laser that is designed to help treat sun-damaged skin, reduce scarring and pigment spots (like sunspots) and treat acne and acne scarring. It works by causing very specific micro-damage to the skin, allowing the body’s natural healing processes to go to work restoring skin tone and reducing the appearance of sunspots. It is minimally invasive, so there is still a recovery time of up to a week that can be expected after treatment.
Non-Invasive
Intense Pulsed Light treatment is for those who want a gentler way to reduce sunspots and other pigment spots on the skin. Precise amounts of light energy are delivered through the skin’s surface, helping reduce the browns and reds in the skin, while also promoting collagen growth. The best part is that it requires absolutely no downtime!
Microneedling
By using small, vibrating needles, we can infuse the skin with various topical products and stimulate collagen and elastin production to help heal the skin. This reduces sunspots, other pigmentation spots, scar tissue and other kinds of damage to leave you with younger, healthier looking skin.
Medical Peel & Micropeel
Though the use of a chemical agent, we peel away the top layer of skin, revealing the younger-looking skin below. This helps reduce sunspots and evens out your skin tone. We offer both specialized full Medical Peels and an express Micropeel, depending on your needs and time constraints.
Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation and skin-rejuvenation procedure that utilizes a diamond-tip tool that buffs and polishes away the outer layer of your skin, including sunspots, to reveal the more radiant skin underneath.
If you have sensitive skin, or just don’t want to go quite as deep, dermaplaning is for you. It is a light exfoliation that will remove fine facial hair and dead skin cells, helping to improve skin tone and reduce the appearance of sunspots.
