Summer Hydration and the HydraFacial

We all have our own ways of beating the summer heat.

For little kids, it might be running through a sprinkler or begging their parents to take them to a water park. For others, a dip in the gulf at the beach is a great way to cool down (although this can also be drying for your skin if you don’t wash off all the salt water). For most of us, the most important way to keep cool throughout the summer is to make sure that we are properly hydrated. If you are dehydrated, that summer sun can suddenly feel an awful lot hotter! Dehydration is also terrible for your skin, contributing to a dry, lifeless, rough texture. Even keeping up with your 8 glasses of water may not keep your skin looking the way you want. What else can you do? You can come to one of our Azul Medical Spa locations and get a HydraFacialMD!

HydraFacialMD

The HydraFacialMD is one of the most advanced facials we offer here at Azul. It’s a beloved treatment, often used by Hollywood celebrities to keep their skin looking healthy, even after exposure in the hot Hollywood sun.

If you haven’t guessed by the name, the main focus of the HydraFacial is hydration. By infusing your skin with a number of hydrating serums and antioxidants, we can keep it radiant and healthy, and also help protect it against the drying effects of the sun. It’s a very customizable treatment, so if you are suffering from extremely dry skin, we can tailor your HydraFacial to help infuse your face with moisture, restoring a healthy summer glow!

What Is Involved in the HydraFacial?

The HydraFacial is made up of four parts: cleaning and exfoliation, acid peel, extractions and, the most important part, hydration!

Cleaning and Exfoliation

To get the most out of any facial, we have to remove any dead skin cells or other debris that might be clouding your complexion. If you’ve been spending a lot of time out in the sun without proper sun protection (you ARE using an excellent quality sunscreen, right?), then your skin probably needs a good exfoliation. We use a special spiral tool to gently buff your skin, giving you a deep, complete exfoliation in a relaxing, comfortable way. We have many options with HydraFacial and can dial-up, or dial-down the intensity based on your skin’s condition and needs.

Acid Peel

As part of your HydraFacial we use a very gentle glycolic acid peel. It may feel cool, or at most, will feel like a gentle tingle on your skin. Here again, we can dial-up or dial-down the strength of the peel to suit your skin.  That’s one of the best things about our HydraFacials  — just how customized we make them!

Extractions

We all despise blackheads and pimples and are sometimes tempted to perform our own extractions (manually). Resist. Instead allow us to use HydraFacial’s patented suction tool to remove impurities from your skin and pores. HydraFacial does a better job without having to resort to any painful extractions, as these can cause tissue damage.

Hydration

Now we’ve come to the HydraFacial’s namesake: hydration. It’s time to infuse your skin with any number of hydrating serums, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and some Azul SkinHealth skincare products. Our licensed estheticians select the finishing serum best for you. By the time we are finished, your skin will have a beautiful, healthy, well-hydrated glow!

You can see that at every step in the process the products are chosen for your skin’s condition, age and health – it is a truly unique treatment just for you. Even with four discreet steps, HydraFacial only takes about a half-hour from start to finish and is a super-gentle treatment with no recovery time. You will leave the office with a clean, fresh dewy glow that comes from healthy hydrated skin. You can almost dare the sun to try to dry out your skin!

Of course, there are many other things you can do to improve your hydration throughout the summer besides the HydraFacial. The most important is to drink lots of water. We might not associate drinking water with skin health, but believe me, if your body isn’t getting enough water, your skin is going to suffer. Some people say you should drink about eight cups of water a day, others say that is too much. I would simply recommend getting a reusable water bottle and simply take sips whenever you get thirsty. After all, your body knows when it wants water!

You can also take home some of our Azul SkinHealth products to help keep your skin healthy and moisturized every day. There are lots of different products, but in my experience, the HA Serum with Peptides is very effective at boosting your skin’s moisture, along with stimulating collagen production beneath the skin, to keep it tight and glowing. You could also use the Vita C Emulsion with A&E or our Timeless Moisture!

The HydraFacialMD is just one of the many different facial options that we offer in our Medical Spa. The Azul Platinum Facial is another fantastic treatment that will help to keep your skin hydrated throughout the hot summer. Remember, beating the summer heat and keeping your skin well-hydrated doesn’t need to be a chore this summer!
