When you look in the mirror and begin to see some wrinkles that weren’t always there, then it may be time to consider getting the famous “wrinkle-reducer” injectables. There are so many options to choose from that you might not know which one to go with. Not only that, but each injectable has a slightly different action, depending on the effects you are expecting.

So, what are your options when it comes to reducing wrinkles, and what are the differences between the various injectables? Let’s find out what wrinkle reducers can do for you and what options we have available at Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa.

Why Use Wrinkle Reducers?

As time passes by, your face goes through different kinds of movements, especially as you make facial expressions. Your collagen production drops when you pass your 30s, so the skin is no longer able to maintain its form as well as it once did with repeated movement. When you smile or frown, your skin might not be able to bounce back into place, leaving wrinkles in its wake. These are called dynamic wrinkles.

The more you do this, the deeper the wrinkles will become if the natural process is followed. This is where wrinkle reducers come in. Commonly known as neuromodulators, wrinkle reducers will temporarily reduce the muscle activity that enables facial expressions. This is done through botulinum toxin A injections.

Wrinkle reducers are often injected in areas where you tend to furrow or squint the most – the crow’s feet, elevens, or forehead. The treatment will relax the muscles causing the contraction, allowing you to reduce forehead wrinkles or other movement-caused folds.

Top Wrinkle Reducers to Try

There are various wrinkle reducers that you can try for a more youthful look. At Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa, you can opt for the following popular options:

1. BOTOX® Cosmetic

There are many effective neuromodulator brands, but BOTOX® Cosmetic is by far the most popular one. With OnabotulinumtoxinA as a base, it works best for crow’s feet, eyebrow creases, and the “bunny lines” on the side of your nose. Results may be seen after 24 to 48 hours, but with some people, it may take a little bit longer. It can also last between three and six months before the substance exits your system. If you have a greater muscle mass, then you may need more BOTOX® injections to obtain a visible effect.

2. Dysport®

With AbobotulinumtoxinA as a base, Dysport® is best used when dealing with the frown lines between your eyebrows. Dysport® injections may offer results in two to three days, but it can take up to one week in some people. Dysport® is slightly longer lasting compared to BOTOX® Cosmetic, although this depends on various aspects such as your immune system and muscle mass. The wrinkle reduction effects may last for up to 5 months.

3. XEOMIN®

XEOMIN® uses IncobotulinumtoxinA to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The substance can target moderate to severe frown lines between your eyebrows. XEOMIN® is best used when you have developed a tolerance for Dysport® or BOTOX® Cosmetic, as it has a stronger yet gentle effect. This is thanks to the protein coat found on the molecule toxin, making it less dense compared to other types of botulinum toxin type A. It may also be a better option for those with sensitive skin that did not respond well to BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®.

What to Do After Wrinkle Injectables?

When you get BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, or XEOMIN® injections, you need to take the proper aftercare steps. For example, one thing to note is that you should apply a cold compress to the area for ten minutes. But don’t worry, we can provide you with an ice pack immediately after your treatment to reduce any swelling.

Avoid any sweat or flush-causing activities for the next 24 hours, as this can cause the wrinkle reducer to prematurely exit the skin. You should also avoid pressure or touching the skin for the next 24 hours.

Say Goodbye to Wrinkles!

Wrinkle reducers are a good way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your face without adding actual fillers. These types of injectables are great if you are dealing with dynamic wrinkles and fine lines but do not experience any facial volume loss. Stay tuned for our next blog that talks about fillers for volume loss and wrinkles! For now, book an appointment with Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa and we will recommend the right wrinkle reducer for you!
