Sclerotherapy is the Key to Smooth, Unblemished Legs!
- Posted on: Jan 20 2019
It’s funny how one tiny thing can cause a huge problem.
Take a pimple, for example. Remember being a teenager and getting a pimple on your forehead? It was terrible! We’ve all had the experience. It was the only thing we could focus on when we looked in the mirror. Going to school became a nightmare, because we just knew that everyone was staring at us. (It possibly never occurred to us that they all had pimples, too, and were just as self-conscious, but that was probably the case!)
And as we start to get older, little signs of aging can become just as big a source of concern as a pimple when we were teenagers. Wrinkles around the eyes are all we can see. Our frown lines appear deeper than ever. And, if we suffer from spider veins, those little red webs of veins on our legs can make us feel self-conscious enough to never want to wear a swimsuit again!
But thankfully, there are solutions to all of these problems. Wrinkles around the eyes? Botox. Deep frown lines? Dermal fillers. But what about spider and mild varicose veins? For these, we have a remarkably effective, time-tested treatment that will get rid of those red blemishes in no time!
Sclerotherapy is a non-invasive, injectable treatment that has been around for over 150 years, so trust us, it’s a proven treatment!
In this procedure, we inject a tiny amount of a solution (called a sclerosant) directly into spider veins. This solution intentionally damages the lining of the vein, forcing it to collapse. Then, this damaged tissue will be reabsorbed through your body’s natural healing processes, just like your body would heal a bruise. After about six to eight weeks, the spider veins we treated will be nothing but a bad memory, leaving you with smooth, unblemished legs.
Are There Side Effects?
There usually shouldn’t be any real side effects to sclerotherapy. There could also be some minor itching and bruising in the areas that were injected, but these should clear up soon after treatment.
Do Home Remedies Work?
Unfortunately, no.
While there’s a ton of advice out there on the internet about how to heal spider veins naturally, the reality is that home remedies don’t work.
And to tell the truth, sclerotherapy is such a painless, straightforward procedure that there’s no reason to mess around with home remedies, just on the off chance that they might work. Come into Azul, and we will treat your spider veins in under an hour.
Will My Results Last?
While the spider veins that are treated won’t come back, there is no guarantee that you won’t ever get spider veins again. New spider or mild varicose veins can develop elsewhere on the legs, requiring another round of treatment. While this can be a bit annoying, touch-up treatments for spider veins are easy. Just call up Azul, book an appointment, and we would be happy to take care of them for you!
Of course, if you are suffering from other kinds of skin redness, like sun damage, there are many other procedures that we can use to help. Broad Band Lighttherapy, for example, can destroy darker skin pigmentation and redness, restoring your skin’s texture and appearance.
It’s important to know that if you have serious varicose veins, ones that are bulging and painful, you should see a vascular specialist to discuss the best treatment for you. A consultation with Dr. Flaharty or Debbie, our PA can help you determine whether that’s your best course of action. But for spider veins and mild varicose veins, sclerotherapyis, no question, one of the best, easiest treatments available. And while you are getting your legs “touched up,” why not take a look at the other surgical, non-surgicaland Medical Spaprocedures we offer at Azul?
