Revitalize Your Skin! Part 1: Chemical Peels
- Posted on: Aug 2 2023
If you want to revitalize your skin and make it look glowing after the summer heat, then a chemical peel might be your best choice. It can give your skin a “reboot,” allowing you to shed off dead skin cells so that new, healthy ones can come to the surface.
But what does a chemical peel do, and what are the results you can expect? Let’s find out more about chemical peels and what they can do to refresh your skin.
What Is a Chemical Peel?
During a chemical peel, a chemical solution is applied to your skin, causing the top layer of skin to flake and peel off. The process will stimulate new cell and collagen production, which can result in youthful and smoother-looking skin.
After a chemical peel, your skin will begin to peel and exfoliate itself. This is a normal part of the healing process and aside from a mild burning sensation or stinging that subsides quickly, you shouldn’t go through too much discomfort. After the treatment, you may also notice some slight redness, but this usually goes away within a few hours.
Chemical peels represent a great option if you want to look more youthful and reverse damage done to your skin. You can use a chemical peel for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and more. Once the outer skin layer is shed, you can look forward to a brighter complexion.
What Do Chemical Peels Treat?
Chemical peels can treat various skin conditions, improving the texture of your skin, as well as its tone. At Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa, we offer chemical peels for:
- Fine lines and wrinkles, such as the ones around the mouth or eyes
- Mild scars caused by acne or other scratches
- Certain acne types
- Age spots, sun spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation
- Rough skin, dull complexion, and scaly patches
- Dark patches that are caused by melasma
Each skin condition may require a different type of chemical peel. This is why we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our medical aestheticians. Not every skin issue may be treatable with a chemical peel alone, so we may suggest combining it with other treatments.
Types of Chemical Peels
During your consultation, we will be able to determine the best peel based on your skin concern and the results you wish to obtain. Below are some of the chemical peel options that are available.
1. Light Chemical Peel
Also referred to as a lunchtime chemical peel, this treatment will offer subtle improvement in time. During this procedure, only the outermost skin layer will be removed, and it is a good option when you are dealing with acne, fine wrinkles, uneven skin tone, or sun-damaged skin. It has the shortest recovery time, which may be between a couple of hours and a few days at most.
2. Medium Chemical Peel
Medium chemical peels are great when you have more skin concerns to treat. During the peeling process, you will eliminate the outermost layer and the top part of the middle skin layer. This is often the better choice if you have acne spots or scarring, moderate skin discoloration, or fine to moderate wrinkles. The recovery associated with medium chemical peels lasts about one week and does require a little bit of downtime.
3. Deep Chemical Peel
Deep chemical peels are usually recommended when you want to obtain dramatic results. If you have extensive sun damage, wrinkles, blotchy skin, or numerous acne scars, a deep chemical peel may be your best course of treatment.
