Rejuvenating Your Eyelids Doesn’t Have to Be a Pain
- Posted on: Feb 28 2020
Eyelid surgery has been on the rise for the past several years. Why? There are a few reasons. Among them is the fact that the eyes are a focal point of the face; a focal point that indicates age and our emotions. When the eyes look droopy and hooded, so does the face. Many people who have undergone eyelid rejuvenation claim that they feel more confident in their facial aesthetic overall, even without other anti-aging procedures.
If you are still contemplating the whole “New Year, New You” concept, maybe eyelid rejuvenation is the way to move toward the appearance that feels most like you. Read on as we discuss one of the biggest questions patients have about blepharoplasty for younger-looking eyes: what will recovery be like? More specifically, we point out that recovery can be as smooth as you make it.
Recovering like a boss takes only a few simple steps:
Prepare Ahead of Time
You can expect to be able to resume most activities in 7 to 10 days after blepharoplasty. During this time, though, your focus is to rest and heal. This can be made easier by preparing ahead of time. Arrange childcare, pet care, house cleaning, and meal prep in the few weeks before surgery to ensure stress isn’t a part of your recovery.
Be Diligent with Self-Care
There are basic care instructions and post-op guidelines that will be provided by our staff. It is important to read through those guidelines and also have a loved one read through them, as they may need to help you remember important steps. Basic steps that can help your recovery include placing cold compresses over the eyes to reduce swelling and using eye drops to prevent dryness.
Remember the Light at the End of the Tunnel
Incisions will look red and swollen for at least a few days and the eyes will look puffy no matter how well you’re sleeping. Some people bruise, while others do not experience much bruising. Understandably, you’ll be anxious to see the results of your procedure, so we advise you to anticipate one to two weeks of swelling before you begin to see the major changes that your eyelid surgery has achieved.
Additional tips for a speedy blepharoplasty recovery include:
- Adequate sun protection using sunscreen and dark glasses.
- Getting plenty of rest
- Give your eyes plenty of rest by limiting screen time
- Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption
