Heavy, Tired Eyes? The Problem May Be Your Forehead
- Posted on: Dec 29 2015
As we age we develop loose skin around our eyes leading to wrinkles, redundancy and bags. We also develop laxity of the forehead with descent of the eyebrows and forehead skin. This results in a heavy, tired, and sad appearance around the eyes.
Fortunately there have been big advances in the surgery to correct a droopy forehead. We now perform most brow lifts using endoscopic surgery. This means the procedure is accomplished with very small incisions hidden in the hair baring scalp with no skin removal. Through these small incisions the entire forehead can be released internally. We use an endoscope to visualize this release and the tissues are then gently lifted and reshaped to achieve the desired rejuvenation. Lifting of the eyebrows and forehead in this way results in a natural reshaping of the eyebrow to a more youthful contour. The endoscopic brow lift also reduces forehead furrows, frown lines, and wrinkles further smoothing the area. Best of all there are no visible incisions or tell tale signs of surgery.
The procedure is one of the most important advances in facial aesthetic surgery in the past 20 years. By using only small, hidden incisions the procedure can be completed in less than an hour and recovery time is much shorter than previous techniques. As with all facial cosmetic surgery, endoscopic brow lifts are performed under intravenous sedation with local anesthetic for the comfort and safety of our patients.
You will experience some soreness the first few days and tingling and numbness after the procedure can last a few months. . Some swelling and bruising around the eyes can occur but is usually mild and usually subsides in the first week. Swelling is typically much less than eyelid surgery. Keeping the head elevated and using ice around the eyes is helpful in reducing the swelling. Most patients can return to light activity within a day or two and full activity in 2 weeks.
