Guide to Injectables – What You Need to Know About Dermal Fillers
- Posted on: Sep 13 2023
As you age, your face begins to lose volume due to collagen loss and other environmental factors. With the soft tissue thinning out, lines begin etching around the mouth, nose, and cheeks, causing hollow areas to form and become more apparent. Because of this, your face will begin to lose its plumpness and look more tired, especially as your lips become thinner and cheeks become less full.
The good news is that dermal fillers can help replenish that lost volume. With so many dermal fillers on the market, you may not know which filler is best for your needs. Some fillers work better for the cheeks, whereas others are more efficient for the lips. Some last a short time and others are long lasting. Let’s discuss the ins and outs of dermal filler injections and see what our recommendations are!
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers, often referred to as simply “fillers,” are gel-like substances injected into your skin to restore any lost volume. They are also used to enhance your facial contours and soften any creases. Dermal fillers can offer a sculpting effect without the need for surgery, significantly reducing side effects or the potential for downtime.
Dermal fillers are made with various base substances such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-lactic acid, and more. Depending on the formula, they may also have a rigid lifting effect or a fluid, plumping one. By scheduling an initial consultation with one of our Master Injectors, you can determine exactly which dermal filler works best for your needs.
Popular Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers come in different formulas, depending on the results that you are looking for. Here are the options we offer at Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa:
-
JUVÉDERM®
JUVÉDERM® is a combination of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. Hyaluronic acid holds moisture, so when it’s mixed with water, it will provide that plumping, hydrating effect that your skin may be lacking. It will also increase your body’s natural collagen production, making your face and lips look more voluminous. Additionally, the lidocaine in the JUVÉDERM® will make the whole injection process more comfortable.
JUVÉDERM® comes in various formulas, such as JUVÉDERM® Ultra, VOLUMA™, VOLBELLA® and more. If you want a JUVÉDERM® lips filler, then VOLBELLA® and Ultra are the best choices for your needs. On the other hand, if you are looking for more volume in your cheeks, then you should consider JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™.
-
Restylane®
Restylane® is also an HA-based dermal filler that is perfect for rejuvenating your facial tissue and giving your face a more sculpted look. It is often used for enhancing the lips and lip lines, but it is also ideal for improving subtle nasolabial folds.
Restylane® comes in different formulas such as Kysse™, Refyne™, Lyft™, and more, and our Master Injectors will choose the best one for your needs after listening to your concerns and goals for your appearance.
-
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is a dermal filler made of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite, which physically adds more volume to the area. It is stiffer than hyaluronic acid, which means that it will provide more support.
This is the better choice if you want dramatic volume with an immediate effect. The RADIESSE® filler will also stimulate your body’s collagen production, which can provide a longer-term youthful look.
-
Sculptra® Aesthetic
The Sculptra® Aesthetic injection is made from a synthetic substance named poly-l-lactic acid, which is slightly different from hyaluronic acid fillers. It is technically in the dermal filler category, but its action is different, as it aims to promote collagen growth.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is often used to reduce folds and wrinkles on different areas of your face, providing a natural sculpting effect. Since it does not add an actual filling product, it may take more than a month to see the effects, but once you do, the results can last about two to three years.
