Brow Lift 101: Everything You Need to Know About Brow Lifts

My eyebrows are sagging, and I have some lines on my forehead that make me look tired or upset. What are the best cosmetic options to address this?

If you’re committed to regular maintenance, Botox and other botulinum toxin-based treatments are a safe, effective option. A more permanent option is an endoscopic brow lift, a procedure for raising the eyebrows and/or reducing lines on the forehead, the bridge of the nose and between the eyes. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 30,000 were performed in the US last year. Nearly 90% of these were done on patients between the ages of 19‒50.

Will the results look and feel natural? I don’t want to go around looking surprised all the time.
Don’t worry! Brow lifts have come a long way from the early days, when the incision was made across the forehead. Dr. Patrick Flaharty’s expertise as a facial plastic surgeon makes him uniquely qualified to perform brow lifts that are effective, without being directly noticeable. He uses a pencil-sized camera to guide the shaping and removing of muscle and tissue beneath the skin. The scalp is lifted and tightened to achieve a smoother, more relaxed-looking forehead.  The result of a well-done brow lift is a more alert, “awake” appearance. People will know something is different, but may not know quite what it is — expect them to ask whether you’re doing your hair differently!

What about recovery? Will I have scars?
The recovery time for an endoscopic brow lift is shorter and involves less discomfort than a surgical brow lift. The incisions are usually between one-half and one inch long, are placed along the hairline and closed with sutures, tape or clips. After these are removed (usually within two weeks), you should be able to return to work. The final results of your brow lift may take several months to become fully apparent as you continue to heal. With appropriate care (including sunscreen and a healthy lifestyle), your brow lift can last 5‒10 years.

Are there any risks?
The most frequent after-effects of a brow lift are head pain and discomfort. In extremely rare cases, frontal nerve damage is possible. Dr. Flaharty and the team at Azul use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to achieve the best results and ensure patient safety. Dry eyes are also an infrequent complication of an over-corrected brow lift. Because Dr. Flaharty is a trained oculoplastic surgeon who actually specializes in cosmetic surgery of the eye area, you can rest easy knowing that you’re in the most qualified hands.
