The Best Products & Procedures to Combine with Microchanneling
- Posted on: Jul 1 2018
I am continually impressed by how our patients here at Azul’s Medical Spa want to contribute to their own skin health and skincare maintenance. The kind of attitude that says, “How can I best maintain my results? Is there anything that I can do from home?” is exactly the kind of approach that we love to see! It means that their results will last longer and be even more effective.
Microchanneling, one of the newest (and rapidly becoming one of the most popular) treatments that we offer in our Medical Spa, is essentially a more advanced version of the traditional microneedling treatment. The special ProCell applicator used in a microchanneling treatment can create up to 1,000 perforations per square inch, at a depth of 1.5mm. This precise depth penetrates just the top layer of your skin, inflicting an intentional minor injury to the skin below. This triggers your body’s natural healing process, and new collagen will start to be produced under the skin, resulting in a reduction of wrinkles and a much clearer, smoother complexion. The procedure only takes 30 minutes, so you can even do it over lunchtime.
But what if you didn’t need to be in a hurry to head off to eat your lunch? What if you could take advantage of some of the other products or procedures that we offer, that can make your microneedling treatment even more effective? Let’s take a look!
Procedures
Although there are a number of different surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures that can help you on your way to a harmonious rejuvenation, there is a specific treatment that we offer in our Medical Spa that perfectly complements a microchanneling procedure: dermaplaning.
Not to put the cart before the horse, but if you really want your microchanneling treatment to be super effective, you are going to want a dermaplaning treatment first!
Dermaplaning is a light physical exfoliation treatment that removes dirt and debris from the top layer of your skin, along with your vellus hairs (also known as peach fuzz). Think of it as a super-smooth shave! Once these hairs are removed, it will give your skin a much smoother, much healthier look. Dermaplaning also helps improve the absorption of skincare products into the deeper layers of the skin. When you combine dermaplaning and microchanneling, you are really taking care of both layers of the skin, the upper and the lower.
Products
After a microchanneling treatment, your skin will be super receptive to any skincare products applied (especially if you had a dermaplaning treatment as well). With the potential for increased absorption, the active ingredients in our Azul SkinHealth products are able to penetrate deeper than usual, due to the channels created by the device, revving up your results. After treatment, your aesthetician can suggest a few Azul SkinHealth products to apply, and here are some of the best.
Intensive Renewal Serum
Our go-to serum after microchanneling is the Intensive Renewal Serum with 5 GF and HA- (that stands for 5 Growth Factors and Hyaluronic Acid)! This serum is used during the actual microchanneling treatment to infuse your skin with the most nutritive active ingredients available. The 5 growth factors work together to boost regeneration, increase collagen production and re-inforce capillaries and circulation. Think of it as giving your skin the “food” it needs to regenerate, and with microchanneling we are able to drive the food deep into your skin to get maximal benefit. Hyaluronic acid is the most hydrating substance available. It is a powerful moisture-binding ingredient that retains moisture in the skin, plumps and hydrates. Plump skin is youthful skin. Continued use of the Intensive Renewal Serum after your microchanneling procedure, results in continued benefit.
Our most powerful anti-aging moisturizer, the Growth Factor Renewal Cream is probably one of the most popular products in the Azul SkinHealth line, and certainly one of the best to use after a microchanneling or dermaplaning procedure. Its growth factor peptides (the secret ingredient of our renewal cream) help to accelerate tissue repair, speeding up the growth of epidermal cells, very useful after these procedures! It also helps to reduce wrinkles, and to reactivate the collagen production under your skin, supercharging the collagen production induced by a microchanneling treatment.
Satin Eclipse Sun Protection
Because it causes damage to the top layer of your skin, microchanneling can temporarily increase your susceptibility to sun damage. And during a Florida summer, that sun can get intense! So, what can we do? We can apply Azul SkinHealth’s Satin Eclipse Sun Protection right after a microchanneling treatment to protect your skin from those harmful UV rays.
As far as sun protection goes, Satin Eclipse not only gives you excellent broad spectrum SPF 32 protection (meaning it protects from both UVA and UVB rays), it also blocks infrared light as well. And this is actually a two-in-one product: a fantastic sunblock and a luxurious moisturizer. Containing antioxidant vitamins C and E, the slow release formulation of Satin Eclipse means that your skin will be hydrated and repaired throughout the day. You can even wear it under your makeup! And finally, Satin Eclipse includes micro-silicone particles that give a beautiful satin finish to your skin. It is an excellent investment to protect your microchanneling and dermaplaning results.
