Total Facial Rejuvenation: Microneedling & Morphues8™
- Posted on: Jun 14 2023
You do your best to keep the signs of aging at a distance with skincare and proper dieting, but you can’t stop the wheels of time; aging is inevitable. The good news is that there are cosmetic and aesthetic treatments that can help! Some of the most popular techniques to rejuvenate your face are Morpheus8™ and microneedling, two skin resurfacing treatments that can help reduce your wrinkles and skin imperfections.
While similar in purpose, both treatments are different in execution. Both are FDA approved but may have distinct comfort levels or uses. If you’re unsure of which treatment would be the best option for you, schedule a consultation with one of our highly-trained medical providers. At Azul® Cosmetic Surgery and Medical Spa, our team is here to help you make an informed decision about the treatment you wish to pursue.
Understanding Microneedling
Microneedling is known as one of the best ways to stimulate collagen production. The concept is very simple: to make an incorrectly healed wound disappear, you should help it heal again. This time, it will heal in a controlled manner so that you can improve your skin texture.
Through tools such as the SkinPen®, microneedling uses super-fine needles to create very small punctures in your skin. This will stimulate your body’s healing process, causing it to produce more collagen, elastin, and skin cells.

Use of Microneedling
Microneedling can be used for various skin conditions, the most popular being scars and wrinkles. It can also address conditions like large pores, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, acne, or skin elasticity loss.
The microneedling tool will create micro-injuries in your skin that have vertical, clean edges to allow the complexion to heal nicely without scarring. A nourishing moisturizer is applied after the treatment to ensure proper healing. The entire process should not take more than one hour.

Microneedling Results
It might take a while until you see the results of microneedling. You have to wait until the microscopic wounds in your skin heal because, at that point, your body would have produced enough collagen.
Your skin will already begin to look better after about two weeks, and this will continue over the next six months. The results are long lasting, sometimes even permanent, depending on the condition that you have treated. For instance, scar tissue removed by microneedling will not return unless you create new wounds. With the correct skincare routine, you should be able to maintain these results for a much longer time.
Understanding Morpheus8™
Morpheus8™ is similar to microneedling, but instead of just using tiny needle pricks, it also uses bipolar radiofrequency (RF) technology. Radiofrequency technology is efficient at tightening the skin, making it the non-invasive version of a facelift.
Similar to microneedling, Morpheus8™ also creates small lesions in your skin that will trigger your body’s healing process. Mixed with the RF technology, this also makes it a better option for reducing deeper wrinkles or greater problems caused by the loss of collagen.

Where Is Morpheus8™ Used?
While microneedling is generally used on your face, Morpheus8™ may be used on the entire body. This includes the face, body, periorbital area, legs, thighs, and buttocks. Aside from tightening the skin and diminishing wrinkles, it also has the potential to reduce cellulite and other issues with skin laxity.

What to Expect?
The Morpheus8™ procedure is not painful, especially as we will use a numbing cream before starting. However, you may expect a bit of redness and tenderness to your skin after the treatment. And while it requires minimal downtime, you should still avoid makeup and excessive sun exposure for the next two to three days after treatment.
Similar to microneedling, you will start seeing the results after two to three weeks. As more collagen and elastin will be produced, you will eventually notice your skin looking tighter and smoother.
Which One Should You Use?
Both Morpheus8™ and microneedling are efficient techniques for resurfacing your skin. The procedure you choose depends on the area you want to treat, along with the severity of your condition. So, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our Azul® medical providers to see which option works best for you!
