Starting the Day Out Right

A few weeks ago, I woke up and opened my eyes, but couldn’t see anything because my eyes were still closed! I pried my lids open and upon looking in the mirror saw that there was a significant amount of crusted material on my eyelashes. My eyelids had been looking red and thicker than usual for the past few days and I had just moved to a new place. The eyelid disorder that I had treated for years had finally bit me, I had blepharitis!
A long time ago, I took a Latin and Greek root-word class, and that helped me break down the scary looking word – Blepharitis. Blephar comes from the Greek word blepharon meaning “eyelid” and itis at its Latin and Greek origins means “inflammation”. So when we put these two together we get the definition of eyelid inflammation.
What causes this eyelid inflammation? There are several causes whether they be environmental irritants, or a mild chronic infection of the eyelid glands and lash follicles, but either way there are effective and simple treatments to make this pesky problem go away.
After using some of these treatments, I now wake wide-eyed and ready to start the day out right. If you’re experiencing crusting when you wake up, or itching/burning of the eyelids during the day it might be time to come in to see the eyelid experts.
