BBL Hero™ is one of the most popular laser treatments and is a great way to revitalize your skin. Let’s talk about the benefits of this treatment and why you might want it after a fun and sun-filled summer.

What Is a BBL Laser?

Broadband light (BBL) laser is used in treatments like BBL Hero™ to brighten and enhance your skin complexion. Also referred to as a photofacial, BBL uses light energy pulses to gently and quickly heat your outer skin layers. This heat will then be absorbed into the skin, stimulating the regeneration of skin cells.

The targeted action may allow for a quick reduction of skin imperfections, including pigmentation, broken capillaries, bruises, and more. It can also be used to treat skin damage caused by sun exposure, pollution, and harmful skincare products. For this reason, BBL Hero™ is a good option to use after summer, when sun exposure is at its highest.

What Does BBL Laser Do for You?

BBL Hero™ can enhance the elasticity and firmness of your skin while reducing the appearance of excess pigmentation. Commonly referred to as the “Swiss army knife of all treatments,” it has a versatile application for various conditions, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Irregular skin texture
  • Birthmarks
  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Fine lines
  • Rosacea
  • Broken capillaries
  • Sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation and melasma
  • Dull-looking skin

BBL Hero™ is one of the few treatments that offers targeted results with minimal downtime. The High Energy Rapid Output (HERO) relies on intense pulsed light, which protects your epidermis while reaching deep into the skin layers.

How to Prepare for a BBL Laser Treatment?

Before you get your BBL Hero™ treatment, you need to prepare your skin so that you can obtain the best results. One important thing to consider is that your skin should not be tanned. So, you should stay away from tanning beds and direct sunlight three to five weeks before your appointment.

Similarly, sunless tanners should be avoided about two weeks before the procedure. In the week before you get the BBL Hero™ treatment, you may want to avoid chemical peels and waxing. Products that contain salicylic acid, retinol, and glycolic acid can also be potentially irritating to the skin, so we recommend that you refrain from using them as well.

You’ll want to share with your medical provider at Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa if you are taking any prescribed drugs that may cause photosensitivity. If it is safe to stop the medication, then you may be recommended to do so in the week before the treatment. Additionally, if you experience frequent cold sores, then we may suggest that you take an antiviral before the BBL Hero™ treatment or reschedule your appointment.

Once you get home from the treatment, you may be able to resume your daily activities. It is recommended that you avoid actions that can cause flushing or sweating for the next 24 to 48 hours. This includes hot temperatures, exercise, and saunas. You can also avoid spicy foods and alcohol during the recovery time.

What Results to Expect From BBL Hero™?

You may notice the results a few days after the first treatment, with your skin looking more vibrant. Depending on your skin care needs, you may need about three to five treatments to reach optimal results. Talk to one of our medical providers about your skin goals, and we will recommend the best treatment plan for you.

The BBL laser side effects are minimal, although you may feel a slight warmth, redness, or tingling sensation, similar to a sunburn. The feeling often lasts only a few hours, but this varies from patient to patient. Avoid applying topical acne products, scented skincare treatments, and exfoliants after a BBL Hero™ treatment.
