Microblading vs. Permanent Makeup – What’s the difference?
- Posted on: Aug 22 2019
This is a question that almost always gets asked during consultations with our patients. The main difference between microblading and permanent makeup is technique. The light, hair-like strokes are all the rage with brows right now. And because it’s semi-permanent, your chosen brow shape and color are not a life-long commitment. We all know that brow trends change over time and lush, full brows may not always be “the look” – someday you may want whisper-thin brows or may even want to change brow color!
Both microblading and permanent makeup have their place, and each offers its own kind of solution. If you’re looking to enhance your brows, fill in those thin spots or simply refine your brow shape, but you’re not sure of the best way to go about it, Azul offers microblading services to fit your needs. And, if you’re ready to shorten your daily routine and look your best at any hour, Azul has the permanent makeup solutions that you’ve been waiting for.
We weren’t all blessed with perfect brows, but we can look like we were! Microblading is a semi-permanent technique used to create the illusion of fuller brows. It involves using a special hand tool and color pigment to etch hair-like strokes just under the surface of the skin. Microblading is a hassle-free and low maintenance way to have those flawless brows you’ve always wanted. It’s a perfect complement to an understated makeup palette that frames your face and enhances your natural beauty.
Because the hair-like strokes are so fine and are more superficial than traditional tattoos, microblading is semi-permanent. The pigments begin to break down after 6-12 months. The real beauty of microblading – the fine, 3D-like definition of each hair – slowly starts to fade at that point, so coming back once a year to touch up your results can keep your eyebrows looking fantastic all year-round.
For those who hear the word “microblading” and the shrink from the thought of someone “etching” their skin, at Azul we offer ProNox to get you comfortable and quickly through the process. ProNox is the updated name for laughing gas. It relaxes you, reduces your anxiety, and keeps you comfortable the whole time. When the procedure is over and you stop breathing the ProNox, it is gone from your system within minutes, leaving you ready to safely drive yourself home.
Permanent makeup is not really permanent. But it lasts so long that it’s almost permanent. It uses a tattooing technique to insert pigments into the dermal layer of your skin. This is deeper than the etchings of microblading and there is a bit more spread to the pigments (i.e., they are not as fine). The most common application of permanent makeup is around the eyes, in place of eyeliner. In some cases, permanent makeup can be used to disguise scars, asymmetries or skin pigment irregularities.
Another reason our patients love permanent makeup is because they can get this treatment on different areas of the face. Permanent makeup doesn’t just have to be used around the eyes or to fill in your brows, it can also be used for lining your lips or even bringing more color to your lips through lip pigmentation. It’s a safe, convenient way to bring definition and color to your face every day without relying on makeup.
