Is Eyelid Surgery Right for You? Take Our Quick Quiz
- Posted on: Mar 21 2018
Have you ever been curious about cosmetic surgery?
One of the reasons that we offer free consultations with Dr. Flaharty here at Azul is that, when you are looking into cosmetic surgery, it’s vitally important to have the right information. The internet can be a fabulous resource for all kinds of general knowledge, but there is an awful lot of misinformation out there, too. Much of the info about cosmetic surgery online is slanted toward trying to sell you something, or to convince you that cosmetic surgery is bad. It’s almost impossible to find an unbiased source of information. Which brings us to Dr. Flaharty…
Although Dr. Flaharty is the owner and founder of Azul, he is also a doctor, and he feels that his first, most important responsibility is to his patients, to always give them the unvarnished truth. If he doesn’t believe people may be good candidates for a surgical procedure, he will tell them. If he feels that a prospective patient isn’t quite ready for surgery, he will offer non-surgical alternatives. In a consultation, you can be sure that you will get all of the facts that you need, to make informed choices about your cosmetic surgery options.
That said, it isn’t necessary to come all the way to Azul just to get answers to some simple questions. For example, let’s say that you are curious about eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery can be one of the best ways to reduce wrinkles around the eyes, eliminate drooping eyelids, and rid yourself of dark circles under the eyes. You’ve probably heard great things about it and the results it can deliver, but you may not be sure if it is for you. You could come into Azul and book a consultation with Dr. Flaharty, absolutely! Or you could also take this quick quiz to determine if eyelid surgery may be the right choice to put you on your path to a harmonious rejuvenation.
Question #1: Have you developed drooping eyelids that make you look older?
Drooping eyelids can cause a number of problems, ranging from impaired vision to simply making you look years older than you actually are. Drooping eyelids are often a result of a loss of muscle tone in the face and are often, basically, the effect of gravity on the face over time. It’s a very common sign of aging.
Question #2: Do you have dark bags or circles under your eyes?
As we age, we start to lose collagen and fat in the face. When this starts to vanish around the eyes, the blood vessels can be seen through the thin, delicate skin found there, resulting in dark circles. These can make you look tired at best, or exhausted and sleep-deprived at worst.
Question #3: Have you developed deep crow’s feet around your eyes?
The skin around the eyes is very delicate and thin. As a result, the eyes are one of the first places that start to show wrinkles. This is why crow’s feet usually start to appear in our 30s, and continue to get deeper and more noticeable from there.
Question #4: Do you have any underlying medical conditions?
When you go in for a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, he or she should always ask you about your medical history: everything from depression to high blood pressure, to a history of obesity, to whether you smoke. This is because a cosmetic surgeon needs to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery, or if your underlying health could put you at risk for complications. It’s very important that you be completely honest with your cosmetic surgeon. If you feel a little embarrassed about sharing something, don’t worry. Dr. Flaharty has heard it all!
Question #5: Do you feel uncertain or nervous about having surgery?
Cosmetic surgery isn’t for everyone. Some people feel very uncertain about going “under the knife”. They worry about possible complications, or irreversible results, or heck, they might just be nervous about general anesthesia. There is nothing wrong with any of these fears, some people have them, some people don’t.
If you are nervous about cosmetic surgery, Dr. Flaharty can offer you a number of non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedures that may give you results comparable to eyelid surgery. For example, a combination of Botox and dermal fillers can minimize the appearance of crow’s feet, while also filling in the dark circles under your eyes.
You could also use advanced skincare products to minimize the signs of drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes. Azul SkinHealth’s Majic Eyes is a deeply hydrating anti-aging eye gel that combines oxygen and peptides to rejuvenate the skin around the eyes. You could also try our Ultra Peptide Eye Cream to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, while also reducing any puffiness or dark circles that you might have under the eyes.
So, if you’re nervous about surgery, don’t worry. You have a lot of options with Azul!
Question #6: Do you expect a miracle result from eyelid surgery?
Blepharoplasty is often a key component in a harmonious cosmetic rejuvenation. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then eyelid surgery is kind of like buying new curtains! This procedure can “wake up” your face, reducing the appearance of exhaustion and brightening up your eyes. That said, it is only one part of a harmonious rejuvenation. Other procedures like face and neck lifts or endoscopic brow lifts when combined with eyelid surgery, can provide harmonious rejuvenation, with truly stunning results!
So, how did you do on our quiz? If you answered “yes” to any of the first three questions, and “no” to the last three, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery. If so, book a free consultation with Dr. Flaharty, where he can help you determine your next steps.
If not, we also offer a number of other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures that could help you reach your cosmetic rejuvenating goals. A free consultation with Dr. Flaharty is an excellent way to discuss the many options available to you.
