Is a Liquid Facelift Worth All the Hype? Understanding Its Advantages and Limitations
- Posted on: Dec 17 2015
I’m sure you’ve read about such things as the lunch-time facelift or the liquid facelift. But what is it exactly and how is it different than a facelift? As we grow older, our faces begin to lose collagen, elastin, and fat tissue which normally supports the skin from inside and gives our face a fresh, youthful look. This normal loss of facial volume and elasticity leads to varying degrees of sagging in the facial features – loss of volume in the cheeks, hollows under the eyes, deep “marionette lines” on the sides of our face.
The good news is that a lot of this “loss of volume” can be restored with a liquid facelift – by using Botox and fillers to remove wrinkle and restore lost volume. Let’s examine what a liquid facelift is – and isn’t.
First, let’s discuss what a liquid facelift is not. At risk of stating the obvious it’s not an actual facelift – which means if you have a significant amount of sagging skin, a liquid facelift is very likely not going to give you the result you’re looking for. Most people would prefer to avoid surgery if possible, but at the end of the day if the results your after require surgical tightening, lifting or filling then a facelift may be your best option
What is a Liquid Facelift?
Different aesthetic medical clinics offer different treatments. At Azul we customize a treatment specifically for your goals – using any combination of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and our advanced dermal fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, Belotero, and Sculptra.
Here’s what a liquid facelift is good for:
Reduced wrinkles, creases, and folds
- Restoration of your natural facial contours
- A more rested, energetic look
- A friendlier smile
How Long Does a Liquid Facelift Take? How Soon Are Results Seen?
A liquid face lift can be completed in as little as 30 minutes. Once we’ve assessed your facial anatomy and which areas to treat, the areas of interest will be numbed with topical numbing cream. The actual injections are quick and relatively painless. .
In the case pictured above, fillers and BOTOX® helped put volume back into her cheek area, smoothed out lines in the forehead, filled in lines and creases around the mouth, and strengthened the jaw line.
Most liquid facelift results are visible instantly; can you say “instant gratification”? Results of BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport injections can take a few days to fully develop and results of Sculptra occur gradually over 4 to 6 weeks.
What can I expect during recuperation?
One of the best things about a liquid facelift is that unlike a traditional surgical procedure, it doesn’t require any sort of special recovery. In the vast majority of cases, patients can get back to their regular activities immediately. As these are injections you may experience swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness at the treatment site. We recommend intermittent ice to the area immediately after the treatment to reduce swelling and ask our patients not to exercise that day. Most of these side effects tend to be minor and short-lived.
