Give Your Eyebrows an Upgrade with Microblading, Coming Soon to Azul

You know, there is a real artistry in cosmetic surgery. The finest facial cosmetic surgeons, like Dr. Flaharty, are artists who sculpt and refine facial features to enhance and restore a healthy, youthful appearance. It can take years just to learn the technical skills necessary for cosmetic surgery, and it takes decades of experience to be able to deliver the incredibly natural-looking results that Dr. Flaharty does with every procedure.

There is also artistry required in one of the newest procedures that we will soon be introducing at Azul. It’s the next level of permanent makeup eyebrow enhancement, microblading.

Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing, that helps fill out and shape eyebrows in a natural, almost 3D-like way. Using a special, bladed tool and colored pigment, our experienced practitioners etch hair-like strokes just below the surface of the skin along your eyebrows.

Although traditionally applied permanent makeup can give you fantastic results, the difference with microblading lies in the detail of the tattooing. With most permanent makeup for eyebrows, an entire block of skin is colored in under your existing eyebrows, aiming to enhance the color and fill out the contours. But with microblading, each “hair” is individually etched into the skin, creating an incredible 3D-like look. Even close up, people are hard-pressed to tell that your eyebrows have been enhanced.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microblading?

If you are looking for a semi-permanent way to enhance your eyebrows (whether you want to fill in missing hairs or just refine the shape), you are probably a great candidate for microblading. It’s incredibly safe, and perfect for just about all skin types. However, if you’ve had a permanent makeup eyebrow enhancement in the past, call our office for a free consultation to discuss whether this procedure is right for you, and what other options are available.

What Is the Procedure Like?

Just like getting any other tattoo, the pigment is delivered directly into the skin. It’s usually described as a little uncomfortable rather than real pain. And at Azul, we always want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible, so a topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin to help minimize any discomfort, and afterward, a cold pack can also be used. And when you no longer have to spend half your daily beauty regimen just getting your eyebrows to look right, the extra time you can use to spend sleeping in instead (or enjoying a nice leisurely breakfast, or taking the dog for a walk)!

At Azul, we often talk about how quickly most non-surgical cosmetic procedures can be done. And that’s usually true, just not this time. Microblading is a fairly time-consuming procedure, with good reason. We are etching each individual “hair” into your skin, and the full procedure may take up to three hours. It really isn’t something you want to rush. You are unique. Your underlying bone structure, your skin type, your personal aesthetic goals – are all different from anyone else. The work of art that is being created with microblading takes time to craft.

After the procedure, you may experience some swelling and redness around your eyebrows, which should subside after a few days. During this time, you may notice that your eyebrows appear to be darker than what you were looking for. This is completely normal, as it can take some time for the skin to heal and the pigment to settle to the desired color. (Think wall paint here: it always looks darker when going up, but that’s not the finished color.) To be certain everything is going well, we’ll want you to come in for a follow-up appointment, about a month after your treatment.

How Long Will My Results Last?

As microblading is only semi-permanent, the pigments start to break down after a year or so. The real beauty of microblading – the fine, 3D-like definition of each hair – starts to fade at that point, so coming back once a year to touch up your results can keep your eyebrows looking continually fantastic.

Whether you want a little more eyebrow fullness, or you are tired of having to apply makeup to get the definition that you want, microblading may be the perfect solution for you.
