Exilis or CoolSculpting – What’s the Difference?

Tell me if this sounds familiar.

You’re working so hard to drop a few pounds and get your body into summer shape. You keep up with your diet, you exercise daily, and you are starting to see results. The weight is slowly but surely coming off, but annoyingly, it isn’t coming off in the right places. Despite all of your hard work, you still have noticeable, stubborn pockets of fat. You know the areas: the thighs, love handles, bat wings under the arms, under the chin… No matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get these areas to shrink and disappear. It’s a very common problem. No matter what exercise gurus may tell you, it is simply impossible to target specific areas of fat. Well, at least it is impossible to target specific areas of fat with exercise. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures, on the other hand…

Non-surgical body contouring has, in just a few years, become one of the most asked-for cosmetic procedures in the world. And little wonder why. Before this hit the market, the only reliable method of body contouring and fat reduction was liposuction, which required major cosmetic surgery. Although liposuction is still considered the gold standard, recent advances in non-surgical fat reduction technology is quickly closing in, delivering fantastic results with no downtime or incisions. The most popular non-surgical body contouring option for years has been CoolSculpting, but now there is a new kid on the block and it is giving CoolSculpting a run for its money. It’s Exilis Body Contouring.

So what is the difference between these two procedures? It’s literally the difference between hot and cold!

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is based on the principle that fat cells freeze faster than other cells. This means that, if you apply intense cold energy onto the body, the fat cells will freeze and be destroyed while leaving the surrounding tissue healthy and unharmed. As your body reabsorbs the destroyed fat cells over the course of a few weeks, you will literally see the fat vanish in front of you. When CoolSculpting hit the scene, it revolutionized the body contouring market. The procedure was fast, only taking about an hour, and was comfortable. At worst, you might get a little bit of a chill!

Exilis

But now, at the opposite end of the heat spectrum, comes Exilis Body Contouring. Exilis is a combination skin tightening, body contouring procedure. Completely non-invasive, it uses targeted radiofrequency (RF) energy to generate focused heat in the deeper layers of the skin. This focused heat contracts collagen bundles in the dermal layer of the skin, resulting in an instant tightening above. But Exilis goes one step further, also stimulating deep collagen production, resulting in a long-term tightening of the epidermal (top) layer of skin. This is a remarkable result in and of itself, but the real magic of Exilis is what the procedure does to fat cells. When these cells are subjected to the focused heat energy delivered by the Exilis applicator, they become metabolically active. This means that they literally open up and the fat spills out. Once this happens, that fat is removed from your body through the usual, natural way (euphemism!). Moreover, the fat cells that are affected by the heat will be damaged and become incapable of taking in more fat. The entire treatment only takes about an hour, and thanks to the advanced Exilis applicator, is incredibly comfortable. Think of it as a hot massage that also melts away fat. Exilis, however, may not work for everyone. But, no fear! During your consultation, our providers will be able to figure out what the best option is for you!

So, what the difference between CoolSculpting and Exilis, aside from one using cold energy and the other using hot?

One of the biggest differences between them is that CoolSculpting doesn’t tighten the skin at the same time the damaged fat cells are being reabsorbed. If you are taking off quite a few inches, this can leave you with some excess skin. The beauty of Exilis is that it does both at once. As the fat leaves your body, the skin covering those fat cells becomes tighter, giving you a more toned, tightened look than CoolSculpting could give you alone.

Neither treatment requires any downtime, you can walk out of Azul directly after your treatment. At worst, your skin might be a little red for a few hours. The results of CoolSculpting take a few weeks to show themselves, as your body needs time to reabsorb the destroyed fat cells, while the results of Exilis are apparent within days. Both treatments will take a few weeks to reveal their full results, although Exilis will, again, be a bit quicker.

So, which is better? Well, that is a much harder question. Both CoolSculpting and Exilis can give you remarkable body contouring results, there is no question about that. You have to ask yourself if you want immediate results or if you’re willing to wait for a few weeks. Exilis does provide skin tightening at the same time as the fat reduction, so that is a big point in its favor.
