Curious About Trying Botox? 10 Facts That Might Surprise and Delight You

Beautiful young woman is getting botox injection at clinic. She is sitting and smiling. The doctor is holding syringe near her eyebrows carefully

“I haven’t had any plastic surgery,” says fashion designer and Oscar-nominated film director Tom Ford. “I have had Restylane and Botox, but I don’t think of that as plastic surgery anymore.” And indeed, minimally invasive treatments like Botox can be administered more quickly and easily than ever before, with longer-lasting results and zero recovery time. You might associate Botox with celebrities like Kim Kardashian or Courtney Cox but may never suspect that the co-worker next to you has occasional touch-ups during her lunch hour. With all the myths and misconceptions out there, it’s important to know a few facts before you contact Azul for a free consultation about Botox.

  1. Because it is a naturally occurring neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, botulinum toxin is sometimes call “the miracle poison.” There are actually eight different kinds of botulinum toxin – A, B, C1, C2, D, E, F and G. Type A is the one popularly marketed as Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. While these are manufactured by different companies, they have essentially the same chemical makeup. Some findings indicate that Dysport may take effect sooner to produce noticeable results more quickly, but also that Botox results may last longer.
  2. Botulinum toxin A is used in many sub-specialties of medicine. It’s common in treatments for urinary incontinence, excessive sweating and teeth-grinding, as well as for more serious conditions like muscle spasms, chronic migraines and cystic fibrosis. The Journal of Psychiatric Research suggests that Botox may even be effective at regulating depression.
  3. Botox has been around since 1981, and was originally developed to cure strabismus (“wall-eye”). In 2002 it was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, (wrinkles between the eyes) which led to an immediate demand for its cosmetic properties and additional investigation for use in other areas of the face.
  4. Unfortunately, there are spas and clinics that (literally) water down the Botox they give to patients, to make it seem like they’re getting more volume. Dr. Flaharty and his team at Azul maintain the highest quality industry standard in the training and administration of Botox treatments.
  5. Botox and other botulinum toxin A treatments are highly effective at erasing wrinkles caused by muscle movements (such as smile or frown lines and crow’s feet). However, it will not work on those wrinkles or other skin problems caused by sun damage.
  6. A well done Botox treatment is difficult or impossible to spot. There’s a reason so many celebrity gossip sites speculate on whether so-and-so has had it; only their board-certified plastic surgeons know for sure! Dr. Flaharty’s specialization in facial plastic surgery makes him uniquely qualified to administer flawless treatments that leave you looking and feeling great.
  7. Celebrities who are open about their love for Botox include Kim Kardashian (of course), Courtney Cox, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Heather Locklear. Even tough guy Al Pacino is a fan!
  8. Ever wonder how celebrities can walk the red carpet, dance and party all night in those high heels? Turns out Botox is the stars’ secret weapon for preventing foot pain. Shoe-aholics everywhere can rejoice in knowing that a few injections every so often can give you the stamina to wear those stilettoes all night and day.
  9. Botox is the #1 minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in the world, with over 4.8 million procedures performed in 2014 alone. The U.S. accounted for nearly 25% of these, followed by Brazil, Japan and South Korea.
  10. You can have Botox treatments done quickly, discreetly and with no downtime at the Azul office in Bonita Springs, Fort Myers and Naples. Dr. Flaharty or a member of his team will be glad to speak with you about how Botox can help you look and feel more confident. Soon you’ll have your circle of friends wondering: did she or didn’t she?
