CoolSculpting or Exilis: Is One Better Than the Other?
- Posted on: May 15 2020
Bumps and bulges seem like a normal part of life for many people. Regardless of how easily we can accumulate stubborn fatty deposits, getting rid of them is much more challenging. Faced with the realistic and dissatisfying outcome of diet and exercise alone, many people eventually resort to some sort of professional treatment. This doesn’t have to mean surgery like liposuction. In our practice, it could mean treatment like CoolSculpting, or perhaps Exilis. Both are designed for fat reduction, but is one better than the other? Let’s take a look!
CoolSculpting Cryolipolysis Treatment
You may have heard of CoolSculpting, the fat-freezing body-contouring treatment that’s totally hot right now. This treatment has been popular for the past several years. This is partly due to its efficiency and also partly due to smart marketing. CoolSculpting works by holding a small area of fat between two panels that deliver freezing temperatures. In a session lasting around 40 minutes, the fat that is secured between the panels is frozen. This leads to crystallization that destroys the membranes of the cells. The body is then free to discard them. There is no downtime needed after treatment.
Results: CoolSculpting fat reduction may require 1 to 3 treatment sessions scheduled over several weeks. Fat is gradually metabolized, with results culminating at approximately 12 weeks.
Exilis Radiofrequency Body Contouring
This nonsurgical method of fat-reduction targets both fat cells and collagen in the subcutaneous layer of tissue. Radiofrequency is mild energy that heats targeted tissue without affecting the skin. The Exilis device has a built-in cooling mechanism to enhance protection. During a 30 to 90-minute session, fatty tissue is adequately heated to disrupt fat cell membranes, leading to their elimination from the body. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment, being mindful to stay hydrated to assist in the fat-flushing process.
Results: Patients may need 4 to 6 Exilis treatments to achieve optimal results. However, we must state that, unlike CoolSculpting, Exilis not only reduces fat but also tightens the skin due to collagen remodeling.
At Azul Cosmetic Surgery, we consider every patient’s unique situation and their overall goals to make the best recommendation in each case. To schedule your consultation to discuss body contouring in our Naples, Bonita Springs, or Fort Myers office, call 239.415.7576.
