Chemical Peel – Pore Perfection for your Skin
- Posted on: Jun 3 2018
Our poor pores! As we get older, our pores can become enlarged and far more noticeable. As a result of this, we can develop blackheads, acne and excess oil, not mention unattractive spots on our faces.
There are many reasons why you might develop enlarged pores as you age including hereditary and environmental damage. If your parents had them, there is a good chance that you will, too. And then there’s sun exposure and damage. Good thing we live in Florida where that isn’t a problem, right?
Sun damage is the cause of many different skin conditions, including enlarged pores. As we age and lose collagen in the face, our skin starts to lose the elasticity and tightness that we associate with youth. Because of this, the tightness of the skin around your pores also starts to weaken, resulting in deeper, more noticeable pores. Sun damage only worsens this condition. This is another of the reasons we strongly recommend that all our patients invest in great sun protection to protect, and even help heal, your skin.
What Can I Do?
If you have developed enlarged pores, or other kinds of skin damage caused by the sun, there are a number of different cosmetic treatments that we offer in our Medical Spa that can help restore the beauty of your skin. Although we don’t want to get rid of your pores, as they are essential to maintaining healthy skin, we can reverse much of the damage and restore some of the skin tightness and radiance of youth.
There are a number of different exfoliation procedures that can help, including microdermabrasion and Fraxel laser skin rejuvenation, but one of the most tried-and-true methods of minimizing your pores is a good ol’ fashioned chemical peel! But this isn’t just any chemical peel. At the Azul Medical Spa, you will be getting our platinum standard Medical Peel!
A chemical peel is one of the best-known cosmetic procedures, and one of the most misunderstood. The common perception is that you may come out of a chemical peel looking a little scary, with painful, angry red skin. This happens when a practitioner isn’t adept at the procedure, or may not have selected the appropriate level of peel for your skin, or both. But here at Azul, all of our expert licensed estheticians have also undergone Dr. Flaharty’s rigorous and comprehensive training, to make sure you will get the best results possible.
Chemical peels are designed to increase cellular turnover by removing the top layer of skin. This refines the epidermis, getting rid of dead skin cells and the sun-damaged surface, revealing the healthier, more youthful-looking skin underneath.
The big advantage with our Medical Peels is that each is customized to your skin. Different people have different levels damage, and of sensitivity, so we make sure that your chemical peel is perfect for you. We can increase or decrease the strength of the peel, to hit the “sweet spot” for your rejuvenation.
The three most common peels that we offer are the Vitalize Peel, the Jessner Peel, and the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) Peel.
The Vitalize Peel is a light Jessner Peel followed by a retinoic acid peel. This is a great starting place for those looking to minimize pores and rejuvenation their skin, but have never had a peel before.
The Jessner Peel is, for many patients, the “not too hot, not too cold, but just right” chemical peel. It’s a moderate peel that can greatly improve the tone and texture of the skin, minimizing pores and restoring radiance. It is also a fantastic peel if you suffer from acne.
The TCA is one of the stronger peels that we offer. It treats enlarged pores, but it also minimizes any superficial pigmentation (like sun and age spots), along with fine surface lines and wrinkles, resulting in a thorough rejuvenation of the skin.
If you don’t have the time for a full Medical Peel, we have another option that can give you great results, minimizing your pores and rejuvenating your skin. It’s a micropeel!
A micropeel is essentially a lunch-hour peel, as it only takes about a half-hour to apply. You can be in and out of the Medical Spa and still have time for lunch! It is the lightest of all chemical peels, but is still quite effective, especially when combined with dermaplaning. As with all of our peels, the micropeel is customized to your unique skin type, to ensure that you experience the least amount discomfort both during and after your treatment.
At Azul, our mission is to help you discover your true beauty by delivering customized treatments to meet your unique goals. We specifically tailor your Medical Peel experience to match your needs and skin type. And after your treatment, we highly recommend regularly using excellent sun protection to maintain your results, and protect your skin and pores from the damage that UV rays can cause. This can also help prevent other skin issues that might arise in the future.
But as with most non-surgical treatments, the results from chemical peels don’t last forever. A monthly HydraFacialMD or micropeel can be excellent for maintaining your results, they are quick and easy but with amazing cleansing and restorative value. Regular visits also allow us to monitor your skin health, and nip any newly arising issues right in the bud!
