Blepharoplasty Can Make You Feel Like Yourself Again

Aging isn’t altogether terrible. Even the development of a few lines and wrinkles doesn’t typically cause panic in the average person. Concern tends to arise only when tissue changes make the face look different than it used to. This often happens first around the eyes because the tissue here is quite delicate. Here, when tissue becomes loose and saggy or heavy, the result can be a face that always looks fatigued, angry, or unfriendly. We help patients correct these issues so they can feel like themselves again. Blepharoplasty helps us do that.
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery. It may be performed for functional reasons but is usually a cosmetic procedure performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. The purpose of blepharoplasty is to make the eyes look younger, yes. The overwhelming result is often that the entire face looks younger. Blepharoplasty cannot remove every fine line and wrinkle. That’s not it’s purpose. What this procedure can do is smooth the upper or lower eyelids to look like a more beautiful, youthful frame for the eyes.
Is Blepharoplasty Right for You?
There are a few situations for which blepharoplasty may be ideal. These include:
- Heavy, saggy upper eyelids. The skin around the eyes, including the eyelids, is weakened by sun exposure and various other factors. When the upper eyelid skin thins and loosens, it gets droopy. At first, this may be barely noticeable. Over time, however, the skin can overtake the natural crease of the upper eyelid, making it disappear. Some people’s skin falls against their lash line, the skin has gotten so loose. Upper blepharoplasty pulls the skin up toward the natural crease, where tiny incisions are made. Excess skin is trimmed, restoring the visibility of the crease and lower eyelid at the lashes.
- Baggy, droopy lower eyelids. When people have mild undereye bags, they may be able to disguise them with dermal fillers. However, that treatment does not address loose and degrading skin. Lower blepharoplasty is a long-term solution for undereye bags that eliminates the problem by tightening the skin that lies over small fat pads under the eyes. This restores the gentle compression on the fat pads so they do not protrude, causing bags.
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure that requires only a couple of weeks of downtime for a full and beautiful recovery. To learn more about this procedure, call 239.415.7576 for an appointment at our Fort Myers, Naples, or Bonita Springs office.
