A Beginner’s Guide to Laser Facial Rejuvenation – 5 Things You Should Know!
- Posted on: Jun 5 2017
Pew, pew, pew!
Ok, I’m bad at laser sound effects. And that’s ok, because we have a ton of different lasers right here at Azul, all designed to give you a fantastic facial rejuvenation. It’s like the future, in medical spa form!
In all seriousness, laser cosmetic procedures can deliver incredible results like no other treatment can. We understand that the idea of lasers can be a little overwhelming at first. It just seems so… science fiction. So, let’s strip away some of the mystery and tell you exactly what you need to know about laser facial rejuvenation.
- There Are Different Kinds of Facial Laser Procedures
Our most aggressive laser procedure is our CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing. In the operating room, we use a CO2 laser to literally remove the top layer of your skin, completely getting rid of all skin irregularities and impurities while tightening up the lower layer of the skin to eliminate wrinkles.
If you want something a little less intense, you can try Fraxel Laser Skin Rejuvenation. We use either an ablative or non-ablative fractional laser (to provide a range of intensity) to reduce any scars, acne, sunspots or wrinkles on the face.
Our gentlest laser treatment, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, is a great way to get a fast, rejuvenating effect. Here, we use focused light energy to reduce the appearance of sunspots and wrinkles, along with other conditions such as rosacea, spider veins and enlarged pores.
- There May Be a Recovery Period
Your recovery period from laser facial rejuvenation really depends on the strength of the treatment.
CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing is literally cosmetic surgery. We are stripping away a full layer of your skin. This procedure requires about a one to two week recovery period after treatment for the new skin to completely heal.
Unlike the CO2 laser, Fraxel doesn’t require a very long recovery time (if you do the non-ablative treatment). Your face might just be a little red for a few days, like you have a sunburn.
IPL doesn’t have any recovery period associated with it at all. There may be minor bruising, but this is very rare.
- Wear Sunscreen. We Repeat, Wear Sunscreen!
Regardless of which treatment you are using, we are intentionally damaging the top layer of your skin. In other words, we are damaging your first line of defense against UV rays and the sun.
It is vitally important that you keep your skin properly protected while you are recovering from laser treatments. Your skin will be hyper-sensitive, and sun exposure can cause some real damage, both to your skin and to your results. With the CO2 Laser Treatment, stay out of the sun entirely. With Fraxel and IPL, you should use an excellent sunscreen that provides full protection from UV rays. We recommend Azul’s Mineral Defense SPF 32, Azul’s Satin Eclipse Sunscreen SPF 34 or Azul’s Ultra Natural Sunscreen SPF 32. To learn more about these sunscreens, click here.
- Multiple Treatments May Be Necessary
Although only one treatment with the CO2 laser is necessary, you may need multiple treatments with Fraxel and IPL to achieve your desired results. With each session, you will see your results become more and more obvious!
- Laser Procedures Are Often Complemented by Other Treatments
Lasers can get incredible results, but they can’t do everything. If you wish to get a truly harmonious rejuvenation, you should try combining your laser facial treatments with some of our non-surgical procedures. For example, Botox and dermal fillers can work wonders to fill in wrinkles and plump up areas in the face. These results can nicely complement the tightening effect that laser procedures can give you. Ask Dr. Flaharty in your free consultation if you’d like to learn more!
Oh, there is just one more thing that you should know. June is Laser Love month here at Azul, with all of our laser treatments being 15% off! There isn’t any better time to come in and give laser skin rejuvenation a try!
