Facelift For Men in Fort Myers, FL
In recent years, more men have been seeking facial cosmetic surgery. Men are realizing the benefits of looking their best, both personally and professionally. The face and neck lift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure that can tighten loose skin in the lower third of the face, including the jowls, jawline, and neck, eliminating the signs of aging and restoring a more youthful appearance to the face. The male facelift procedure at our practice in Naples, Bonita Springs and Fort Myers is often combined with other procedures for a more comprehensive rejuvenation of the entire face.
Facelift For Women Vs. Facelift For Men
There are distinct differences in the approach to facial rejuvenation for men when compared with women. The skin thickness, hair pattern, bony skeleton, and soft tissues, including the muscles and fat pockets of the face, are different for men and women. These distinct structural differences must be taken into account when planning facial rejuvenation for men. For example, women tend to have higher arched brows while men have lower, flatter brows. Women tend to have a softer, oval face while men have a stronger, more rectangular face with prominent brow bones and jawline. These gender-specific features must be understood to achieve optimal results in facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Patrick Flaharty has extensive experience in male facelift procedures. He has developed specific techniques to address the unique features of the male face. As each face is different, the process begins with a thorough evaluation of your face, including the skin, muscles, fat, bone structure, and unique genetic features. From this evaluation, Dr. Flaharty will design a specific treatment plan that will encompass all the unique features of your face and the best available treatment options.
Will a facelift make me look stretched?
No. Facelift procedures do not begin and end with the skin; they reposition deeper layers of fat and tissue. In this way, today’s facelift achieves much more natural-looking and longer-lasting results.
Is a facelift procedure right for me?
The facelift procedure offers significant and long-term benefits, as it can turn back the cosmetic clock by about 10 years. Some of the improvements that can be achieved with Dr. Flaharty’s unique facelift approach include:
- Correction of sagging skin on the lower face
- Restoration of a more youthful, angular jawline
- Significant reduction of deep creases around the nose and mouth
- An apparent increase in volume or contours in the mid face
- Tightening of a double chin or turkey neck
By eliminating sagging and widening at the lower aspect of the face, a facelift can create a much younger, much more vibrant, and expressive face. Issues like sunken cheeks may be improved to some degree and enhanced further with the use of fat grafting or dermal fillers. These changes can do a lot to enhance a person’s self-confidence.
It is important to understand the limitations of a facelift. This procedure can correct a variety of concerns that affect the lower two-thirds of the face. It does not eliminate under eye bags or hooded upper eyelids. It does not lift the eyebrows and may not fully eradicate loose tissue on the neck. Patients may decide to have a combination facelift and neck lift for better results.
What should I expect during a facelift consultation?
The purpose of the facelift consultation is to engage in a two-way conversation that will help guide treatment planning. At the end of your consultation, you should know if a facelift is the right procedure for you and, if it is not, which procedure may be. You will gain information from the surgeon that will enable you to determine if they are the ideal provider for you. Your surgeon will gain information about you that will enable them to prepare your procedure according to your needs and expectations. And, on that note, your consultation will provide the information you need to ensure that your expectations are realistic and you know what the facelift can and cannot achieve.
Expect to discuss topics such as the following:
- What improvements you want to see in your appearance.
- How you feel about your appearance and how you would like to feel.
- What you expect to look like after surgery.
- Your medical history.
- What procedure or procedures may meet your goals.
- What you can expect in terms of results.
- What is involved in the procedures recommended to you (incisions, anesthesia, recovery).
- Risks and possible complications.
If questions arise during your conversation or you have come with a list of questions, your doctor will take time to answer each one thoughtfully and clearly.

How long does the surgery last?
A facelift can take anywhere from two to six hours, depending on the techniques the doctor employs and the extent of tissue tightening that is necessary to achieve the desired outcome. Patients remain in a recovery area until they regain alertness after their anesthesia, and are released to a loved one who will drive them home.

How long will it take to fully recover from a facelift?
Patients can expect bruising and swelling after their facelift. These side effects usually peak three to four days after surgery and then gradually improve. While much of the physical healing from facelift surgery occurs in the first week of recovery, cosmetic healing can take another week. Patients may feel well enough to drive themselves to their post-op appointment a week or so after surgery, but may not feel comfortable in their appearance to return to work at that time. Most patients return to their job or other minor social activities 10 to 14 days after their facelift.
Some of the side effects of surgery can take several weeks to fully resolve. Examples include numbness and scarring. The minor remnants of surgical healing should not prevent you from engaging in your normal day to day activities.
Patient Testimonial
“I want to express my sincere thanks for an absolutely wonderful surgical experience! The entire journey from beginning to end could not have been smoother. I am truly grateful for your genuine care and concern throughout the process, which has been clearly exemplary.” ~ Barbara B.
Will I need someone to take me home after a facelift procedure?
Yes. Facelift surgery may be performed using general anesthesia or, at the very least, a sedative and local anesthesia. These medications can take several hours to wear off. Patients will need someone to take them home and also should know that they cannot drive until they are no longer taking prescription painkillers.
