Dermal Fillers in Fort Myers, FL
Our team is dedicated to making Azul Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa the premier destination for dermal fillers in Fort Myers, FL. Continue reading to learn more about the benefits that our fillers for fine lines and wrinkles can offer you.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers, also known as injectable implants or facial fillers, are injected to smooth wrinkles, add volume or soften features without the need for surgery. These products use active ingredients that occur naturally in the body, such as hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite. After injections, the results safely reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Am I A Candidate For Dermal Fillers In Fort Myers, FL?
People who are new to facial fillers may not know if they are better off with BOTOX or with a dermal filler. While nothing replaces a complimentary Consult with one of our Master Injectors, there is a simple guideline: wrinkles above the cheeks often benefit from BOTOX or Dysport while lines and folds from the cheeks downward often benefit from dermal fillers. About 80% of the time, the guideline works for an Injector’s rejuvenation plan. But about 20% of the time, our Dr. Flaharty and Master Injectors will use dermal fillers above the cheeks — like when the grooves between the brows are very deep. And BOTOX can be used around the lips to create a “Nefertiti Lift” or “lip-flip”.
WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY
“All I can say is the proof is in the mirror! Have been a patient of Dr. Flaharty many years, and the difference is amazing… Although I was much younger when I started – I look much better now! Great staff, very knowledgeable and highly qualified RN’s, Lot’s of convenient locations too. I’ve never walked away disappointed.” – Lisa V.
How Are Facial Fillers Used?
Facial fillers are used to literally fill in deep folds. lines and grooves — usually in the mid-and-lower face. Our Master Injectors will not over-fill as that can yield a puffy abnormal look. By using dermal fillers conservatively, you will likely not erase the line or fold completely but will greatly lessen the depth and appearance of the fold. By softening the line or fold, it restores a smoother more youthful appearance to the entire face.

What Could Dermal Fillers Do For Me?
Dermal fillers have two main functions: 1.) restoring lost volume, and 2.) smoothing lines and folds. They have an added benefit in that they often improve the skin tone and texture. This is a function of being hydrophilic, or “water loving”. They pull water to themselves which often enhances skin plumpness, luminosity and firmness.
- Restoring Lost Volume: As we age we loose bone in our faces and the fat pads shift downward (creating jowls). These changes can lead to areas of thinness under the eyes, in the cheeks and around the temples. By adding dermal fillers, we are able to restore much of the lost volume in these targeted areas, creating a more youthful, healthy look.
- Smoothing Lines and Folds: Lines and folds can be plumped, or filled to create that smooth, rested, happy look associated with youthfulness. No one wants to be perfectly smooth, as that is perfectly unnatural. But finding the balance of natural smoothness that remains in harmony with the rest of your face is the key to a beautiful and very natural result. Neither of us wants anyone to think you’ve had fillers, only that you are well-rested and feeling great!
Dermal Filler Treatment Areas
Dermal fillers can rejuvenate the face and provide immediate results to the following areas:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Dark circles or hollows under eyes
- Adding volume to the mid-face
- Filling in the lines and creases under the mouth
- Lip augmentation
- Nasolabial folds
What Are The Different Types of Dermal Fillers?
Azul Cosmetic Surgery and Medical Spa, offers a range of dermal fillers in Fort Myers, FL. Our lineup covers all facial areas and can be used in conjunction with other non-surgical treatments for best results. Learn how they can restore a smooth, youthful, and vital appearance to your face.
JUVÉDERM®
Juvéderm is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that helps maintain skin volume and hydration. Juvéderm is available in modified versions that are useful for facial wrinkles and folds. It also binds with collagen and elastin, transporting essential nutrients to the fibers that make up much of the support structure of the skin.
Juvéderm currently boasts a collection of fillers that volumize, plump, and smooth areas of your face. This product line includes Juvéderm XC, Voluma XC, Ultra XC, Volbella XC, and Vollure XC.
Restylane®
Restylane is also made from hyaluronic acid, but it is used mostly for moderate facial lines and wrinkles as opposed to lifting and contouring purposes. Restylane is often used in conjunction with BOTOX and Dysport to enhance and extend the life of results.
A primary benefit of Restylane is that it contains nothing of animal origin. Everything in the formula is naturally occurring in your body so there is no need for allergy testing before receiving injections.

RADIESSE®
Radiesse is made from calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, rather than hyaluronic acid. Radiesse stimulates collagen production and tissue regeneration. As a result, it produces both immediate and extended results.
Most commonly used for moderate-to-severe wrinkles, Radiess is a long-lasting injectable. Radiesse is an alternative to injectable collagen and other fillers that smooth wrinkles while adding facial volume and subsequently contouring.
Sculptra® Aesthetic
We are pleased to offer Sculptra, a “bio-stimulatory” filler that takes facial fillers to a new level. Collagen production decreases as patients age. However, Sculptra can restore collagen to the face and essentially “reverse” the signs of facial fat loss.
Sculptra’s main ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid, is long-lasting, biocompatible, and biodegradable. Sculptra restores tissue loss by replacing lost volume with your body’s own collagen. The injections are often done in a series of treatments and Dr. Flaharty can develop a custom plan with you in order to achieve your goals.
What Dermal Filler Is Right for Me?
Without seeing you, we couldn’t really say what is right for you. Small lines require “light” filler while deep lifting requires a more powerful lifter. And then there’s the difference between a man’s face and a woman’s – their skin and tissue is different and so filler choice may also be different. That’s one of the reasons the Master Injectors at Azul offer complimentary Consultations, so you can talk with an experienced professional about your goals and get a good understanding of what is possible and what the cost may be.
FACIAL FILLERS WITH DR. FLAHARTY
Dermal Fillers Vs. Neuromodulators
Neurotoxins like BOTOX and Dysport work in a completely different manner than dermal fillers. Neurotoxins are injected in tiny amounts into the muscles that contract to form the wrinkle — like the crowsfeet you get from squinting. Neurotoxins temporarily relax those muscles, stopping them from contracting and stopping them from forming the wrinkle.
Dermal filler are injected in slightly larger amounts (1cc per syringe) and are injected into the soft tissue of the face to fill in the deeper lines and grooves.
What To Expect From My Dermal Fillers Treatment
When administered on their own, most dermal filler treatments are quick and simple. These outpatient sessions typically last for about 30 minutes, allowing patients to pop in for a boost and return to their normal activities soon afterward.
Prior to the procedure, a member of our aesthetic team first cleanses the treatment area and marks the skin. The injections themselves take only seconds, and discomfort is managed with topical anesthetics or ice. These fillers can be combined with other services such as Botox or facial plastic surgery.

Dermal Filler Results
Following a treatment, Dr. Flaharty recommends a cold compress to minimize swelling. Depending on the product used and the patient’s anatomy, results are visible immediately and usually last for many months.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Your dermal filler results will generally last from 6 months to 2 years depending on the types of fillers used and the location of the injection. Areas where you have a lot of movement, like your lips, will metabolize the filler more quickly. Whereas areas with very little movement, like under your eyes, will metabolize the filler very slowly. Additionally, some fillers are made with molecular technology designed to make them last longer.
What If I Don’t Like The Look Of My Results With A Filler?
If you don’t like your dermal filler, the effect can be reversed with another injection of a medication called Hylenex. We encourage people to live with their dermal filler for a few weeks if possible, to they get through the swelling phase and get used to seeing the filler result. If they still dislike the result, we discuss the Pros and Cons of Hylenex and work with our patients to make sure they are comfortable, happy and confident.
Side Effects With Dermal Fillers
Dermal filler injections very rarely have negative side effects. Most dermal fillers are based on synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring substance in your body. So allergic reactions are extremely rare. Infection from injections is also very rare, especially at Azul where our Master Injectors use a special protocol to ensure your skin is as clean and germ-free as possible prior to injecting dermal fillers. The most common side effects are redness, bruising or very slight bleeding – all of which generally resolve within a few days (longer for a bruise).
